- Chairman Rana Basharat Ali Khan Congratulates New UNGA President Annalena Baerbock — Sends Formal Letter of Cooperation on Global Human Rights, Peace, and Development
The Chairman of the International Human Rights Movement (IHRM), Mr. Rana Basharat Ali Khan, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Annalena Baerbock, on her election as the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), calling it a “historic moment for the global human rights landscape.”
Speaking on this significant occasion, Chairman Khan stated:
“Ms. Baerbock’s presidency will mark a new chapter of transparent diplomacy, ethical leadership, and global cooperation. This role, while ceremonial, symbolizes the hopes of 193 nations for peace, justice, and sustainable development.”
To further reinforce this message, Mr. Khan officially sent a letter to Ms. Baerbock, offering his full support and partnership in achieving the core objectives outlined in the UN Charter — particularly in the areas of peacebuilding, healthcare, poverty eradication, and social justice.
Key Message from the Letter: “We Stand With You to Build a Better World”
In the letter, Chairman Rana Basharat Ali Khan wrote:
“On behalf of the IHRM global community and myself, I assure you of our full cooperation in advancing the United Nations’ noble agenda. Together, we must champion the rights of the vulnerable, promote healthcare, ensure access to education, and eliminate poverty through meaningful and inclusive international action.”
Chairman Khan emphasized that the IHRM has been at the forefront of human rights advocacy in over 60 countries and is ready to collaborate directly with the UNGA President’s office to convert diplomatic declarations into grassroots-level change.
Annalena Baerbock’s Presidency: A Symbolic but Powerful Role
Ms. Annalena Baerbock becomes only the fifth woman in history to hold the office of President of the UN General Assembly. Her swearing-in ceremony is expected on September 9, shortly before the annual UNGA session. Though largely ceremonial, the position plays a vital symbolic and diplomatic role, representing all 193 member states of the United Nations.
In her first statement, Baerbock pledged to act as an “honest broker” and uphold the dignity and unity of the global body.
